Physical Therapy

AlterG

AlterG

AlterG anti-gravity treadmill is a revolutionary state of the art equipment capable of unloading the body’s weight as low as 20%.  This equipment is currently being used in pro leagues such as the NFL and NBA as well as many power 5 college programs including Purdue. Elite PT and Sports Medicine is the only outpatient clinic in the Greater Lafayette area to offer this type of service. Unloading the body’s weight can be extremely successful in restoring normal gait, strength, and function when pain and gait abnormalities are present with full WB.  This service can benefit painful conditions such as OA and tendonitis, post-operative patients and those seeking weight loss when pain is present.  It is also very successful with high risk fall patients and neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s as you cannot fall in the AlterG.

Applied Functional Science

Applied Functional Science (AFS)

Applied Functional Science (AFS) is the study of human movement in three dimensions of evidence based science.  It converges these three sciences and provides your therapist the necessary expertise to restore functional whole body mobility and stability.  It is vital to every injury and every body part.  At Elite PT and Sports Medicine, we have a fellowship trained (FAFS) therapist, the highest level obtainable in AFS.

Blood Flow Restriction

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR)

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) is a technique that combines low intensity exercise with blood flow occlusion that produces similar results to high load resistance training. High load resistance training is the most successful method in improving muscular strength. Many patients are unable to tolerate high load/intensity training and BFR is a way to simulate these high loads but at a very low intensity.  A variety of conditions including pain, swelling, and injury lead to muscle weakness.  BFR is successful in improving this muscle weakness.

Sports Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry Needling (DN) is a treatment for musculoskeletal disorders and dysfunctions along with those suffering from chronic pain. The process utilizes fine needles which are inserted into myofascial trigger points, tendons, ligaments, and near nerves to stimulate a healing response for pain.  Those in pain but are not a surgical candidate also benefit from DN.  Many therapist are only trained in trigger point DN, but here at Elite PT and Sports Medicine, our therapists are trained beyond simple trigger point DN.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique

Graston Technique (GT) uses stainless steel instruments to effectively treat all soft tissue conditions, whether chronic pain, acute, or post-surgical. This technique helps eliminate or reduce scar tissue and fascial restrictions that can interfere with movement, allowing for faster rehabilitation and with greater success.

Kinesio Taping®

Kinesio Taping® is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It also extends the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting for soft tissue manipulation. Many therapists provide this type service, but are not certified.  To see if your therapist is certified, look for the CKTP credentials.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is a form of Traditional Chinese medicine that has been used for thousands of years to ease back and neck pain, headaches, and other musculoskeletal conditions.  It is a technique that uses suction cups placed directly over the skin, creating a suction of the local soft tissue and sending more blood to the area to stimulate the natural healing process.

Custom Orthotics

Custom Orthotics are commonly prescribed for foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis and over-pronation (flat feet) as well as for low back, hip, and knee pain due to alignment issues associated with over-pronation/supination.  Foot molds are created by casting in a non-weight bearing position and then sent to one of our labs to fabricate the orthotic.
